Easter Egg Ride - Easter Monday, 2009

It was a beautiful, sunny day, with swallows too, and this was our big day!

It was the first ever social ride for my young filly, Romizzia of Grangeway, a.k.a. Zia.  She is four years old and half Arab and half Welsh cob and she was bred locally near Aberaeron.  She has racing and endurance bloodlines!  Hold onto your horses!  She has recently been professionally backed by Sheena Hill who does an absolutely brilliant job, so many thanks must go to her too!  I cannot thank her enough!

My friend rode Jimmy Mac for me - he is a very steady steed - and we had a wonderful time.  We just did the shorter route which was challenging enough for Zia's first outing.  Testing terrain!  I think it was about eight miles.

Zia was very bold and brave and strode out as if the bus would not wait for her!  She was so good - I was thrilled to bits with her.  All the old tyres at the start of the ride did not faze her - she just looked at them.  We experienced our first river crossing and Zia did not even look at it or hesitate - she just marched bravely on, like a good soldier.  We also encountered bogginess and going uphill and downhill where it was also quite slippery and she coped admirably.  Very impressed I am!

I did have a few scary moments but it was me and not the horse!  Everything was fine!

Zia seems to really love being ridden and she walks out at about 100mph!  I have never had a horse who strides out so well!  She is very interested in walking on and she seems to love it all!  Ears pricked all the time.  We both really enjoyed ourselves!

Many thanks indeed to the ride organisers, to Non for marking the route, and to Anita Gordon for test-riding the route the day before.  Thanks, too, to everyone else who helped.

We were very chuffed with our rosettes and Easter eggs at the end.  A brilliant day!
